Shop around for the best student possessions insurance
Save money on your student insurance by comparing quotes online.
Undergraduate finances are tight at the best of times, so buying
contents insurance might not be high priority for many of this year's
freshers. But if you are a student living in a hall of residence, rented digs or
shared accommodation, insuring your personal possessions against theft
or damage is a necessity.
Research shows that the average student has £4,000 of personal belongings,
and with 70% of students owning a laptop or computer and nearly nine in
10 owning a mobile phone, students are a prime target for thieves. According to recent figures, one in four students is a victim of
crime.
Many students mistakenly believe that their belongings will be
covered by their parents' household insurance even whilst they are away
at college or university, but this is not the case in most instances.
Some conventional plans will only cover theft from student accommodation
if there is evidence of forced entry and certain items such as bicycles
and musical instruments may require a further premium. A specific plan
for student accommodation is usually much more flexible.
